Support the Austin Geeks and Gamers

Hello, my fellow geeks and gamers!

My how we have grown! When I took over the reins of our meetup group, we had less than 50 members and scheduled one or two events a month. In April, we celebrated our 6th Anniversary, and we recently broke the 5000-member mark.

Our meetup schedule has expanded to over 30 meetups per month, including movie nights, Geeks Who Drink pub quizzes, Nerd Nites, Werewolf games, Magic: The Gathering games, nerd burlesque nights, D&D games, anime showings, and board game nights at Mothership, Waterloo, and Wonko’s.

All that growth comes with a price, though. Organizing these many events takes hours of time from myself and over 20 other event organizers. And it takes money, for not only the dues that meetup.com charges us, but also for venue space, event prizes, food, drinks, etc. for many of our events.

So, now is the time for our annual summer fund drive to support our Austin Geeks and Gamers meetup group. If you have found that being a part of our geek community has brought enjoyment to your life, I ask you to pitch in, just a little, to support our community and help it grow. Consider if you will…

- If being part of Austin Geeks and Gamers for a year has brought you as much enjoyment as a fast-food meal, consider donating $10.

- If it has brought you as much enjoyment as going out to see a movie (with popcorn and soda), consider donating $25.

- If it has brought you as much enjoyment as a new board game, consider donating $50.

If you can’t honestly say it has been worth the price of a Taco Supreme Value Meal, then please take the time to drop me an email ([address removed]) and let me know how I can make our meetup worthwhile for you. Seriously – I want the Austin Geeks and Gamers community to be a valuable part of your life!

There are two ways to donate to our group. Meetup has a built-in donation page at https://secure.meetup.com/AustinGeeksandGamers/contribute/ . You can go there easily and just specify how much you want to chip in. Or, if you use PayPal, you can make a personal (friends and family) donation to [address removed] . The advantage of a personal PayPal transfer is that the entire amount goes to our account, without Meetup taking a cut.

Last year we raised over $700, which gave us enough to cover dues and support some special events. I would like to meet or exceed that this year to expand our offerings just a little. I hope you can help.

Whether or not you contribute, I look forward to seeing all of you at an upcoming event soon. Thanks for being a member of our meetup community, and thanks for your support!

Excelsior!
