Future of the Smart Home: Interoperability and Automation for Consumer IoT

We’ll start with our normal open networking meet & greet from 7:00p-7:15p. Then after that, Joss Scholten, CTO at Yonomi, will be talking about interoperability and automation for consumer IoT devices in and around the smart home ecosystem. We will be taking a deeper look into how the smart home is changing the consumer IoT landscape. If you’ve built your own IoT device, or are curious about what it takes to expand your device’s 3rd party ecosystem, this month's meeting may be for you! Come learn more about what it takes to build an IoT service or product for a consumer market. Yonomi is the IoT company creating a more connected smart home. They build smart home technologies for people and companies to connect devices, integrate platforms, and streamline the smart home experience. They are experts in device-to-cloud connectivity and building new services and apps for the smart home platform. Yonomi One and Yonomi ThinCloud provide developers with the tools to build, integrate, and scale consumer focused products and services. ThinCloud was recently named IoT Development Tool of the Year by IoT Breakthrough Awards. If you’re interested in getting a head start, download the free Yonomi App at https://www.yonomi.co/download to see our Routines engine at work. IoT Bytes - I have my Arduino, now what? Part 1 of 3

Big Daddy's Burgers and Bar

This is part one of a three part series. You do not have to attend all three, or even attend them in order. The new IoT Bytes meetup, taking IoT topics in smaller chunks. Tonight, we’ll be getting started with Arduino. Our goal, to answer the question, “I have my Arduino, now what?” Questions and discussion are encouraged. Bring your board, bring you laptop, bring your questions. Let’s have some fun. I'll be walking through a weather logging sample, if you'd like to follow along, you'll want to bring along the following: Arduino MKR Zero** DHT22 Temperature Sensor https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0795F19W6 A MicroSD Card https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JWXGNT https://create.arduino.cc/projecthub/Arduino_Genuino/mkr-zero-weather-data-logger-574190 A special note about the venue: Big Daddy's Burgers is offering the use of the room for free, so please come hungry and order dinner to help support and thank them for offering us this space. There is a seating limit of 50 people, so please be mindful of that when you RSVP. Part 1: I have my Arduino, now what? - Building the device, and data logging Part 2: I have my Data, now what? - Taking CSV data, and using tools such as Excel or Sheets to turn into meaningful graphs. Part 3: I want to Automate, now what? - In addition to the data logging, and data transformations, now lets have the cloud do the work for us. **Any of the MKR family of boards will work for this, though the MKR MEM Shield or MKR ETH Shield, will be necessary to provide SD card access. For the sake of simplicity when presenting, I won't be covering these options. Decentralizing IoT & Disrupting the Telcos Using Blockchain

We’ll start with our normal open networking meet & greet from 7:00p-7:15p. Then after that, join VP of Business Development, Mark Phillips for an awesome presentation entitled Decentralizing IoT & Disrupting the Telcos Using Blockchain. We're over a decade into the era of the IoT and it’s still broken. People have great ideas for making the world a better place with more connected devices, but they still can't turn their ideas into reality with all of the obstacles surrounding large deployments, from data privacy and ownership, network coverage, and hardware costs to name a few. Helium is taking a radical approach to make it easier to connect IoT devices to the internet using a decentralized wireless network powered by blockchain. The best part? The network is built and owned by you. Hear from Helium on how you can help shape the future of ubiquitous and affordable connectivity for billions of devices by joining the movement and disrupting the traditional telco model. About Helium: Helium was founded in 2013 by Shawn Fanning of Napster, Amir Haleem, and Sean Carey. The company is based in SF and has raised equity funding from prominent VC firms including GV (formerly Google Ventures), Khosla Ventures, FirstMark Capital, HSB/MunichRe Ventures and others.
