We'll start with our normal open networking and meet & greet from 7:00p-7:15p at Sherlock's.
Then, at 7:15, Product Manager Johan Sarkinen will be presenting on product management for IoT. What does it take be have successful products? How to maintain profitable products over years and even decades? Johan's presentation reviews IoT from a product management and full product life cycle viewpoint. Topics include what product management is about, and some important to think about details of the IoT: building blocks, data, and communications. Relatively new to Austin, Johan has a long history of machine-to-machine (M2M) data communications and product management experience.
Then after a short break, Hardware Engineer James Roberts will talk about fabricating integrated circuits for IoT. Companies like Silicon Labs, AMD, and TI design Integrated circuits, and James will describe how he receives those design masks, and how IC's are made. He will also discuss developing fabrication processes which target low-cost and low-power, for the IoT space. Previously we just tried to make IC's run fast, but now we don't care about that so much. For example, it used to be that you only cared how fast an AMD CPU ran. But now, the IoT would be fine with just 14MHz. They want chips which cost 54 cents and consume 100nW of power!
Oh, and at the end of this month's meetup we will be giving away a dev board we got from Silicon Labs when they presented a few months back. Yay Silicon Labs!! (Sponsors always welcome!).
Food and beverages from Sherlock's awesome menu are not provided, but will be available during the meetup. Please remember to pay your tab before you leave!!!
Personalized name badges will be created for all those who RSVP for this event before noon on the day of the event.
Austin IoT is a sharing group. We are always looking for speakers. If you would like to present at one of our future meetups, please contact us here or speak to us at one of our meetups.
See you there, and as always, be sure to BRING A FRIEND!!!
