New Meetup: Help Stage Rowing Regatta

Announcing a new Meetup for The Austin Rowing Meetup Group!

What: Help Stage Rowing Regatta

When: October 31,[masked]:00 AM

Austin Rowing Club
1 Trinity St.
Austin, TX 78701

On Halloween, Saturday, October 31, all morning and afternoon, Austin Rowing Club is hosting its annual Head of the Colorado Regatta (also called the Pumpkinhead). This is a 5000 meter race, held on Lady Bird Lake between Barton Creek inlet and the island near Longhorn Dam. There will be about 500 entries, with crews from Dallas, Houston, Ft. Worth, Denver, Okla. City, etc. (and of course Austin), and college crews from UT, SMU, Baylor, St. Eds, Texas A&M, Univ. of Okla., etc. See RegattaCentral: Regatta Centralfor more details.
We need volunteers! This would be a good way to learn a lot about the sport of rowing. If you can fill a two-hour or four-hour slot, it would help us, you would meet members and other volunteers, and it would be fun and a real learning experience. You don't have to know anything about the sport. Someone will be there to show you exactly what to do. Mostly we need start-line and finish-line timers and recorders, but there are other jobs, too. If you are experienced in driving a small boat, we need launch drivers. for example.
If you can help, please RSVP to this Meetup and say what time you could work -- between 7:00am and 5:00pm. Any two-hour segment. I'll get back to you with an assignment.
Or, just come for a while to watch.
And I promise we'll have a Meetup in November where you'll get to row!
