What we're about
This is a group for parents and care givers of children under the autism spectrum.
We come together to support one another and build a community for kids on the spectrum to succeed. Grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, neighbors, and friends of people with autism are also welcome!
This is a group of people who love their children dearly, right here, right now, unconditionally. This group of families and professionals enjoy spending time with children in the spectrum, see them as unique individuals, help them learn and make progress, and have a positive outlook. We do not grudge another child's abilities, we believe that every child has been put on this earth for a purpose - to bring joy into someone's life. We are determined to live to our lives to the fullest everyday! If you share our positive outlook and would like to be part of this community of families and professionals, and if you want to help shape the community in which ASD children are growing and will become adults, then please join us!
We plan on having the following meetups:
Family Support Groups - only for families, we share our challenges, exchange ideas on what worked, help and support one another through difficult phases.
Informational Support Groups - families and professionals discuss a topic such as the IEP process, obtain information, ask specific questions about procedures, resources, etc.
Speaker Series - a professional will make a presentation on his/her area of expertise - we will cover speech, occupational therapy, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Behavior Management, Relationship Development Intervention, Floor time, Communicating Partners, Music therapy, Equine therapy, Special Ed Law, Insurance, and many more topics.
Age specific Play Dates - This will be a play date for kids in a specific age range hosted in a public location, normally a park that is friendly and accessible to children in the spectrum.
Volunteering - Members can suggest and host meetups to keep the group running. Professionals volunteer by hosting meetups to share their knowledge and time with the group.
