What we’re about
Discover the joy of putting one foot in front of the other on New England's most scenic mountain view trails in autism-friendly, supportive and safety-focused environment. This group is for individuals with autism, their families and caregivers who might like to explore walking in the woods as a way to get exercise and open themselves to new horizons. Together we'll journey toward calmness, improved attending skills, and greater capabilities.

See all- Mt. Watatic and Nutting HillMt. Watatic, Ashburnham, MA
Join us at Mt. Watatic in Ashburnham MA (outside Fitchburg MA), for one of the top four hikes in MA (according to your leaders. 😊) It’s an easy 1.1 mile up to a gorgeous view of Mt. Wachusett and more, then slight down-and-up trek to Nutting Hill in 0.9 mi, then back to the cars on the Midstate Trail, for a total of 3.0 miles and 900' elevation gain. On a clear you see Boston's buildings and the surrounding Wapack Mtns including Pack Monadnock and North Pack, Wachusett Mtn, the Uncanooonucs, and even Mt. Greylock. Regardless of view it's a great reward of a view for minimal work. If group vote decides, we can skip Nutting Hill and descend the way we came for a 2.2 mile/650' elevation gain journey. OR we can continue on the Wapack Trail past the Midstate junction for an additional 0.5 mi or so across the NH border, on easy, wide, well-graded slopes.
No bathrooms at the trailhead so stop along the way – we like the McDonalds or Dunkins on Rt. 12 N through Fitchburg, which is about 10 min from the trail. See trail map:
