What we're about

Our aim is to balance the public conversation about psychedelics, spread accurate information, and give a new face to psychedelia. We feel that this change will occur through connection and relationship, one individual at a time. We are calling on everyone whose lives have been improved through the mindful use of psychedelics to educate themselves and become ambassadors for the psychedelic experience. Show those around you that people who use psychedelics mindfully cross all social, racial, economic, and political boundaries.

The Aware Project organizes events in San Diego and Los Angeles to educate and connect the psychedelic community. Currently we are running a monthly speaker series called the Psychedelic Awareness Salon and screening psychedelic related documentaries and movies. You can find out about upcoming events here: http://awareproject.eventbrite.com/

The event schedule is typically: speaker/movie followed by questions and then unstructured mingling time

Find us online (www.awareproject.org) or on Facebook (facebook.com/awareproject)

We do NOT hold ceremonies nor do we connect people with any illegal substances or providers. Please do NOT contact us seeking these things. We are education and risk reduction ONLY!

Coming Out Psychedelic: a talk by Daniel McQueen

UC San Diego Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute

Coming Out Psychedelic: A talk by Daniel McQueen Time: 7pm-9 pm Talk and showing starts promptly at 7:30 pm Time will be allotted for book signing after the conclusion of the presentation. Place: The Auditorium at UCSD Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/medicine/research/centers/sleep-research/contact/Pages/ACTRI-Directions.aspx *NOTE*: Daniel will be hosting a limited-ticket Conscious Cannabis Circle event the next day 02/22. Event details and ticket links forthcoming... TALK DESCRIPTION: Join Daniel McQueen as he shares stories of his journey from trying to be a somewhat normal human being, to becoming an underground psychedelic guide, to being a legal, above-ground practicing psychedelic plant medicine specialist in the United States. He’s grateful to share what he has learned along the way, and the many pitfalls he’s encountered, so he can support others interested in pursuing this core professional transition into the light of a very controversial field. Daniel will share what it has really been like to manage a psychedelic therapy center in the U.S. and will also describe two psychedelic programs he has helped implement that are potentially world-transforming technologies: Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy and the Extended-State DMT Expedition (DMTx). In this age of extreme political polarization and the Climate Crisis, we might not have the time or luxury to bring our work into the world while solely conforming to the expectations of mainstream culture. It is time to organize our psychedelic identities into a diverse, inclusive and cohesive movement so that we can adequately transform the serious problems we face today. Psychedelic culture has something important to offer, and we have nothing to be ashamed of. It is our light, not our struggles, that the old paradigms fear the most. BIO Psychedelic lightning rod, Daniel McQueen, MA, is a psychedelic activist, therapist and guide, and author of the book, Psychedelic Cannabis: Breaking the Gate. Along with his wife, Alison McQueen, MA, LPC, ATR who served as Sub-Investigator in the MAPS MDMA-for PTSD phase 2 trials, in 2014 he is founded (possibly?) the first legal psychedelic plant medicine therapy center in the United States, the Center for Medicinal Mindfulness in Boulder, Colorado, serving as the executive director. Daniel also founded the international Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy training program called Psychedelic Sitters School. To test his own activist edges, Daniel initiated the Medicinal Mindfulness Extended-State DMT research and exploration program to implement a new DMT administration protocol that was designed by Dr. Andrew Gallimore and Dr. Rick Strassman. Most recently, with a team of Naropa aligned psychedelic advocates, Daniel helped found the non-profit Medicinal Mindfulness Center for Psychedelics, Spirituality and Sustainability to focus on the use of psychedelics in ethical professional settings for healing and to help transform the global Climate Crisis. Daniel earned his Masters Degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University in 2012 and is a full time psychedelic plant medicine specialist. He is a devoted husband and proud father of two amazing young ones who he is actively dreaming a good future for. More information on his programs can be found at www.medicinalmindfulness.org, www.psychedelicsittersschool.org, and www.dmtx.org. TICKETS: Tickets are $15 presale, or $20 at the door.
