ABOUT UNITY CENTER IN THE VALLEY
Your experience at Unity Center in the Valley may be different than what you have experienced in traditional churches. We have no rituals, ceremonies, doctrines, or creeds. We honor all paths to God, knowing that there is Truth to be found in all religions.
We believe that we create our lives with our thoughts, so we emphasize the positive view of life. We teach taking responsibility for our thoughts, our actions, and our lives, knowing we are powerful, spiritual beings - made in the image and likeness of God - who are having a human experience. God is within each one of us - guiding us, supporting us, and supplying us with all that we need.
We believe in the power of prayer and teach affirmative prayer. By praying for the highest good, we know that we are drawing to us exactly what we need to live a happy and purposeful life.
If you are seeking more meaning in your life, if you know there is more to you than what you have been taught thus far, if you have the courage to seek Truth, we invite you to join with others of like mind in this exciting journey we have undertaken. Try us for a few Sundays and see if this is the place for you.
We invite you to roam through our Website and find something that will inspire you, help you, or arouse your curiosity.
OUR HISTORY
Over four years ago, one Henderson resident decided to do something about her desire to meet people of like mind. And so it all began - evolving into what became known as Unity in Green Valley.
Kathryn Thalden started a book study group based on Neale Donald Walsh's first book, Conversations With God. The response was heart-warming, so she started a second group to study A Course in Miracles. A weekly meditation/prayer group and a Power vs. Force study group was later added to the list of center activities. Local residents showed up, the groups grew, some even driving from the west side of the city to participate.
Ann Graham and Sherry Fickler responded early on to Thalden's call. Eventually, the three of them decided to offer Sunday services. On Easter morning 2003, Unity in Green Valley devotional services were begun. UGV is an expansion ministry of the Unity School of Christianity, based in Lees Summit, Missouri. Unity was founded in the 1890's by Myrtle and Charles Fillmore. The ministry is based on the original teachings of Jesus the Christ. Unity is probably best known for its publication of the Daily Word, a daily devotional book read around the world.
Sherry Fickler retired in 2005. Kathryn Thalden retired in June 2007, and Ann Graham continued on as spiritual leader whilst the process of choosing an ordained Unity minister was carried out.
On 1st August 2007 Rev. Sophia Falke started her ministry as Unity in Green Valley's first ordained minister !
Check on the leadership page for more information.
We are a spiritual center devoted to "serving those who seek The Most High." We are a Divine Idea in progress and welcome all who wish to participate.
In December 2008 we finally moved into our own dedicated home at Pecos and Sunset, and as a result of our relocation - changed our name to Unity Center in the Valley.

WHAT IS UNITY?
UNITY is a worldwide spiritual organization over a century old. It is Christian-based, but we honor all paths to God, knowing that Truth can be found in all religions.
UNITY is an extremely positive approach to life, seeking to accept the good in people and in all of life. Unity teaches that God is Love, God is Good, God is Spirit, everywhere present.
UNITY seeks to relate religion to daily needs, affirming that for every need there is God's perfect answer.
UNITY proclaims the divinity of Jesus, but goes further and assures you that you, too, are a child of God and therefore divine by nature.
UNITY believes in the effectiveness of prayer. Prayer is not seen as a technique for changing God, but for expanding and transforming your mind, and thus changing you.
UNITY affirms that God is the only presence the only power in the universe. Anything that seems to oppose God is an illusion and has no eternal reality.
UNITY teaches the power of the mind and shows you how the action of your mind affects your body and circumstances. "Thoughts held in mind produce after their kind."
UNITY has no dogma, ritual, creedal requirements or ecclesiastical garb. Unity seeks the Truth that unites us as One, rather than the dogmas that separate us.
UNITY sees worship as serving God by uplifting and glorifying God's spirit in people, in positive, joyous ways. It stresses forgiveness of the past and living fully in the present, seeing the good in all things. Unity believes in eternal life and views the present moment as part of eternal life.
UNITY believes in the joy of giving, and the desire for giving should be initiated from within the giver; consequently, all support is by free will offerings.
UNITY is inter-denominational and welcomes in dignity and love people of all races, colors, religions, sexual orientations, social backgrounds and economic levels. Because of the similarity in names, Unity has, on occasion, been confused with other organizations. However, there is no connection between Unity and Unitarianism or the Unification Church.
In summation, UNITY emphasizes the divine potential within every child of God, and teaches that, through a practical understanding and application of what Jesus taught, every person can realize and express his/her divine potential for a happier, fuller and more successful life.
Because Unity honors all paths to God, we frequently invite guest speakers to share their stories, life experiences and spiritual truths.
