I never feel as awkward as when I'm trying to make a friend!
This is a group for women between twenty(ish) and forty(ish) who are making Asheville awkward while following the same pursuit — making friends. Meeting new people who share your interests, and getting to know them a bit, can be especially hard when you feel a little like you don't "fit in".
To make it easier on us, let's meet up while doing an activity together, whether it's hiking, learning a new skill, kayaking, checking out a new restaurant — heck, we're down for all sorts of things, especially if it's exciting and new. If we're all sharing an active experience, it takes some of the pressure off of small talk.
Obviously the coronavirus is making everything more complicated — especially attempting to meet new people! We're still figuring out how to navigate these strange new times, and will take the utmost care, in crafting new events, to maximize the chances of all participants STAYING SAFE from the pandemic.
We welcome all races and nationalities; locals and transplants; LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ people; atheists, religious, skeptics; sobers, drinkers; smokers, non-smokers; vegetarians, omnivores, paleos, foodies; crossfitters, cross-dressers, runners, readers, hikers...etc. :)
Not welcome - men. We may occasionally structure some activities to include a significant other, a friend, or children, but this is about creating a female community of respect, support, safety, relaxation, and adventure. (Anyone who identifies as a woman is welcome here!)
All events are open to all members unless otherwise specified. Jump on in!
P.S. If you're interested in this group primarily because you're new here and don't know many people yet, you are welcome to join here, of course. :) However, also be aware that hundreds (if not thousands!) of new people move to Asheville every month, and there are several Meetup groups that are *specifically* for people who are new to town -- some are even specific to women! Here are a few:
