Hi AXENites,

If a person is to be compared with an iceberg, what we see on the surface is only the result of what’s going on in the inside. The behaviors on the surface are the result of the underlying root causes.

This is the metaphor of a persons inner world as explained by Paragon of psychology Virginia Satir. Satir talks about the self as a progressive expression of the underlying root systems in place within our psyche based off of our biology, our environment, relationships and our resulting psychology/sense of self.

What we see on the surface are the behaviors of pleasure/gain mixed with the coping mechanisms to deal what the conflicts that lie beneath.

If what we see is our behaviors, that is because that is an expression of what is beneath the surface — the behaviors are expressing the feelings, perceptions, beliefs, expectations, values, yearnings and the self.

Behavior is a part of the causal chain of cause and effect — no different than any other physical body. Therefore if we adjust the causes we can ultimately affect the effect.

See you on the Iceberg Top,
