Azure Thames Valley is a group for anyone interested in Microsoft Azure Cloud Computing Platform and Services. We aim to provide the whole Microsoft Azure community, whatever their level, with a regular meeting place to share knowledge, ideas, experiences, real-life problems, best working practices and many more from their own past experiences. Professionals across various disciplines including Developers, Testers, Architects, Project Managers, Scrum Masters, CTOs and many more are all welcome.

Monitoring and Tuning Azure SQL DB & Azure Tags, Runbooks and Flow

Hi everyone, I'm pleased to announce our next Azure Thames Valley event on Friday 22th February (6:30 pm start). Following received feedback, we have decided to slightly change the meetup format. This change will allow for more efficient presentation time management and delivery. The meetup will still have two presentations, however, the first presentation will be delivered in the format of 'lightning talk' limited to 15 minutes of presentation time with the focus on community discussion. The second presentation will run its full expected length of 45-60 minutes. We hope you're as excited about forthcoming meetup as we are, and looking forward to seeing you all there... Lightning talk: Azure Tags, Runbooks and Flow = VM control with Slack by Nigel Tatschner A quick dive into how we lower our Azure virtual machine running costs through automated power settings, and give users the power to turn their machines on and off... all with Slack! Nigel is a Lead Systems Engineer at Squared Up with the extensive experience in the IT industry. Main talk: Monitor and Tune your Azure SQL DB with Intelligent features by Manish Kumar Manish presentation will be packed with contents and demos around Azure SQL DB and how performance monitoring and tuning can be done for Azure SQL DB. Manish will be broadly covering the below topics : • Overview of Azure SQL DB • Performance Overview • Performance Recommendations • Automatic tuning • Query Performance Insight • Monitoring Singletons, Shared Pool and Managed Instance performance using Azure SQL Analytics (Preview) • Intelligent Insights in Azure SQL Analytics • Resource utilisation monitoring using DMVs Manish Kumar is a Microsoft Certified Solution Expert in ‘Data Management and Analytics’ and works as a Cloud Solution Architect at Microsoft. He is a thought leader in a modern data platform which includes solutions involving relational and non-relational databases, data lakes, advanced analytics, MPP, big data and hybrid cloud implementations.
