The Future of XR Authoring with Unity's Matt Schoen

Details

Hi BUG!

This month we've got Matt Schoen from Unity (formerly of Boston!) presenting the latest in XR authoring tools he's making at Unity. This'll be a pretty awesome talk, so be sure to RSVP! PLEASE NOTE that this meetup is on Tuesday the 30th this month because the 31st is Halloween.

Schoen will be talking about the projects going on in Unity Labs, from advanced rendering for photorealistic humans to AI to new authoring tools for VR and AR. He'll do a short demo of the latest version of EditorXR, Labs' in-VR editor for Unity, and go into detail on Project MARS. MARS (Mixed and Augmented Reality Studio) is a suite of editor tools aimed at extending the visual Unity workflow that you know and love into the realm of real-world objects and mixed reality scenarios. MARS allows users to easily associate game content with conditions on world data. It also provides simulation infrastructure to preview your experience in-editor against a variety of synthetic or captured environments, letting you see how your AR app will react in different real-world scenarios.

Matt Schoen is an engineer with Unity Labs, working primarily on mixed reality. He joined Unity in 2016 to work on EditorXR with Jono Forbes, his co-founder at Defective Studios. You may remember them from the early days of BUG! As integrations lead on Project MARS, he is responsible for wrangling all the plugins and SDKs he can get his hands on. A long-time Unity user (we're talking back to the 2.x days), Schoen has worked on a wide gamut of projects, from PC games to mobile AR apps (back in 2013, before it was cool!). He loves writing code for things that no one has ever seen before.
