SEPTEMBER 14 - 21 - THE JURA, FRANCE

Details
What can we tell you about the Jura mountains of France?
We could describe the dark and mysterious forests that cling to the steep slopes of the mountains where crystal clear streams cascade down spectacular waterfalls to join the rivers and lakes of the valley.

Or we could tell you about deep limestone gorges which hide natural caves as well as medieval villages, abbeys and castles. Baume-Les-Messieurs, with its amazing setting, features on the list of The Most Beautiful Villages of France.
Maybe for the gourmets amongst us we should mention the delicious cheeses like comté, morbier and tomme which are still made the traditional way in local fromageries. And, of course a good cheese should be enjoyed with a fine wine like vin jaune straight from the vineyards around Château-Chalon which cover many sun facing slopes.
