Hike Mt Tam/Cataract Falls

WHERE: Mt Tamalpais waterfall hike- Marin County The trail starts from Alpine Lake. The Cataract Trail offers some of the finest hiking on Mt Tam with pools, waterfalls, small meadow, wildflowers and Douglas fir forest.
WHAT:This is about a 10 miles intermediate hike, not for beginners. Elevation change is about 2100. Steep with steps and rocky in places. We will start from Bootjack Parking Lot and hike up to Mountain Theater, Rifle Camp, Potrero Camp, lunch at Laurel Dell and down the Cataract Trail , steep steps down with the creek past refreshing views of pools and waterfalls, back up to Laure Dell to Rock Springs for a beautiful view of the ocean & S.F. back to Bookjack Parking Lot .We should be back at our cars around 4:00. On the drive home we may eat at In & Out. This is optional if you drove and want to get back sooner. Plan to get back to Sacramento around 6-7.
WHO: This hike is for those who are in great physical hiking condition and are able to hike down steep steps. Not for beginners!
WHEN: Meet Helen at 7:30 AM, I 80 - at W. Sacramento at Enterprise Park N Ride, West Capital & Enterprise Exit, to carpool to the trailhead.
CARPOOL: Due to liability issues, BAS cannot organize or provide carpooling. At the Park & Ride parking lot , please be prepared to arrange your carpooling among yourselves and to help out drivers with gas money (A good rule of thumb is $3.00 for each hour of drive time.

Directions: 80 West to 37 Vallejo to 101 ~ (bathroom stop on 80 before Vallejo)
Direcitons to trailhead: From Hwy 37 to Hwy 101 south making RIGHT at "Tiburon Blvd - E.Blithedale" exit (Mill Valley),get into center lane, Third stop light and Left onto Camino Alto and get into right lane, we will meet at the Safeway parking lot to caravan together.
Right onto Miller Avenue, Get into left lane and make a left onto Montford Avenue (2 AM Club on left), At the 1st stop sign make a Right onto Molino Avenue (steep grade) continue onto Edgewood Avenue, Forward up to the big sign "Mt Tam - Muirwoods", Right at 2nd big sign "Mt Tam - Stinson Beach" which turns into Panoramic Highway. Continue on Panoramic Highway (you will pass Mountain Home Inn on right) up to Bootjack Parking lot on your right.

WHAT TO BRING:Layered clothing that wicks moisture, comfortable hiking boots, hiking poles, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses,flashlight,a light jacket in case of cool wind or potential rain, at least 2 liter containers of water, insect repellent,(hydration bladders or Nalgene-type bottles), food for lunch and snacks and a camera. $$ for gas, $8.00 parking fee and dinner after the hike (optional)
