The Sly Park Kayaking Spring Fling

Come enjoy the serenity of Lake Jenkinson at Sly Park Recreation Area near Pollack Pines. Spring is the perfect time to explore this lake before the summertime crowd invades the park. Plan on touring around the lake's pine-lined fringe and hiking to a roaring waterfall.

We will enjoy tent camping that evening along the beach with a water view. Campsites contain limited parking, fire rings with grill, bear-resistant food storage lockers, a picnic table. There are no shower facilities at this campground and limited cell phone coverage.

Prerequisites: No experience needed. However, if you would like to take part in our future kayaking trips to Lake Tahoe, Loon Lake or Silver Lake, this would be a great primer to update your kayaking camping skills. You will need to provide your own kayak, drybags, camping gear, and food unless arrangements are made in advance.

Before the trip, we will have a group informational meeting to answer any questions on gear to bring.

The park is operated by the El Dorado Irrigation District so there is a $15/night parking fee - be prepared to pay that at the gate since we cannot pre-pay. If you are riding with someone, please share that cost. Cost $65/member and $85/non-member. (Beachfront camping cost a bit more than the regular campsites.)

CARPOOL: When you carpool to and from the starting point for an event, it is at your sole risk, whether driver or passenger. BAS does not have insurance for carpooling arrangements and assumes no liability for such arrangements. Carpooling is a private arrangement between the drivers and riders. Riders should consider contributing towards gas money (a good rule of thumb is $3.00 for each hour of drive time.)

Dogs and alcohol are not permitted on BAS events due to liability issues.
