What we're about

The BWWG is a space for members to work on their own projects in a focused, supportive environment, in the company of other writers. The group began in 2017 as an in-person Meetup that gathered every Sunday for drop-in writing sessions at the historic central branch of the Brooklyn Library at Grand Army Plaza. Since the Covid-19 lockdowns in March 2020 in New York, the group has been meeting virtually twice per week for sessions in that same spirit. Members are no longer constrained by geography, though most of our members live in New York. The BWWG has always been and will always be welcoming, inclusive and absolutely free.

The Brooklyn Women's Writing Group uses an inclusive definition of the term “women”; we offer space and value the creative energy of all female-identified people--trans, cis, genderqueer, and gender-nonconforming--as well as non-binary people who feel aligned with myriad women's experiences, especially in the context of writing and creative practices.

In-Person Writing Group at Blend in Bay Ridge!

Needs a location

We are so excited to offer an additional in-person writing meetup! We will meet on Saturdays from 1:30-3pm at Blend Coffee + Cowork in Bay Ridge [masked]th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11220).

We'll be meeting for an hour and a half to write our own personal projects, starting and ending with 15-minute discussions.

Bring a computer or pen/pencil and notebook--whatever you like to write with!

If you have a writing project/practice that you'd like to bring in to work on, please do. If you don't, that's great too! We will provide a few prompts and exercises to get things started.

Travel to and from Blend with a short walk from the R-line by train and the B9, B63, and B64 bus lines. Our storefront is right off the Bay Ridge Ave train station on the R line.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

In-person writing night at Nook!

Needs a location

At this in-person writing meetup, we will meet at Nook in Bushwick (45 Irving Ave Brooklyn, NY 11237). During this event, we will spend the first hour-ish writing, and the second hour sharing our work, giving spontaneous feedback on what we hear, and socializing. Bring a computer or pen/pencil and notebook--whatever you like to write with! Note that table space may be slightly limited.

If you have a writing project/practice that you'd like to bring in to work on, please do. If you don't, that's great too! We will provide a few prompts and exercises to get things started.

Writers are encouraged but not required to share some of their work after the writing portion of the session. We will give brief reactions to pieces including favorite lines/phrases, questions, what the piece reminded us of, and feelings/mood we took away. This will not be a full-on critique session, but a low-pressure opportunity to share and discuss our writing!
