Refractions: Queer Survivors Zine Workshop

Needs a location

Refractions is the first event of an on-going workshop series. Often times as LGBTQ+ survivors, it’s hard to find space to explore our experiences with intimate partner violence, sexual assault and violence. This trauma informed workshop will be a space for us to explore our stories through poetry and visual art zines. Additionally at this workshop we’ll learn more about domestic and intimate partner violence and sexual assault in the queer community. Representatives from Turning Point of Lehigh Valley and Crime Victims Council Lehigh Valley will there as well.

Zine materials will be provided. You will not be required to share during the workshop if you don't feel comfortable but there will be time where you are welcome to talk about your experience and/or share the pieces you're working on.

Zine = The word "zine" has come to represent a range of small-batch, DIY, “magazine-like” publications in terms of form and content.

We define the term "survivor" broadly as someone who has experienced domestic violence, dating abuse, sexual assault, other forms of abuse, and violence. We will not ask people to go into details about why someone identifies with the term. Also, if you have experienced these kinds of traumas but don't like to use the term "survivor" for yourself, you're also more than welcome. We just chose the term as a way to connect individuals with shared experiences.
