Backyard Skeptics is beta-testing their new free streaming service tonight at 7pm PST. We are streaming our monthly meeting which we have on the forth Wednesday of each month. Our speaker tonight is a local Buddhist leader, Kevin O’Malley. His talk is entitled: Buddhism 101 - A basic guide to Buddhism

The link http://link.clickstre... You can also go to and click on the Streaming Video tab.

About the meeting:
As skeptics and atheists, we need to study different religions not only to educate ourselves but to be able to talk to others about different theologies. A Pew study showed that atheists know more about the top 4 religions than any other group.

From our speaker, Kevin O’Malley:
We all search for happiness but most of us fail to find it because we are looking for it in the wrong way. The teachings of Buddhism are grounded practice rather than belief and contain everything needed to find true happiness and to lead a life that is meaningful and fulfilling in today’s world. The practice of Buddhism exists for the happiness of each individual and the fostering of world peace. This presentation will provide a brief history of Buddhism as well as an explanation of a few of Buddhism’s most fundamental tenets.

The hope of this presentation is to provide the listener with a better understanding and appreciation of the teachings of Buddhism and why these teachings are relevant today. Kevin O’Malley is a Nichiren Buddhist and is the local area leader for the Soka Gakkai International (“SGI”), a lay-Buddhist movement linking more than 12 million people around the world. Kevin lives in Brea with his wife Barbara and daughter Meghan who are also Buddhists. Kevin’s talk tonight is based on his own understanding and practice of Nichiren Buddhism for the past 40 years

This lecture will be available to watch after tonight On-Demand for only $2. Please consider contributing this small amount to support the growing secular movement.
