Designing Custom Maps and Location Data Storytelling with Mapbox & R

This is a free event for any level of R users or anyone who wants to learn R for fun. No background in R is required. Beginners are welcome! Don't forget to bring your laptops as this is a hands-on event. Every business has similar problems involving time and location data - How can I reach new customers? How are my products being used in different locations? How can I make using them more efficiently? In this session, you'll learn how to tell stories with location data using the R statistical programming language and the Mapbox Custom Visuals.

I will explain the basics of location data visualization, like how to use color, size, and map styles to tell your story; how to control your story based on the zoom level in the map; how to create easy to share visualizations with custom boundaries; and some tips & tricks to really take advantage of R Studio Cloud. In the final demo, we'll show an example of using maps to explore the drive distance around a certain business location.
