Re: [atheists-55] Tonight: Darwin's Birthday Party

This is such horseshit, no wonder creationists think we worship Darwin or something. Who cares whether it's this guys birthday? You going to email me me on Einsteins birthday? Newtons? Bohrs? Pastuers? Perhaps there is something to be said about that old Christian story about the golden calf, apparently humans can't go five minutes without bowing down and worshiping something. There have been many scientists before and since how have made as much or greater contributions to human knowledge and even if thier weren't it's the knowledge that's the important part not idolizing the guy that first came up with it. Darwin wasn't even an athiest anyway, screw that fairy tale beleiveing moron.

Dear Atheists:

Happy Darwin Day! A good day indeed, especially for those of us who are grateful that someone stepped forward to rehabilitate the intellectual reputation of men with beards (I thought we'd never recover after all that Jeshua bin Joseph business).

I am sure you have seen plenty of commentaries about the goings-on today, but here are a few I enjoyed, and which I'll share in the spirit of sharing:

... feel free to send others to the mailing list, and do some sharing of your own.

Tonight, we'll be joining other primates at the Queen's Head Pub in Cambridge to celebrate Darwin's 200th. Things get going at 8 PM when 200 free drink tickets are passed out. Then, the BA-sponsored trivia contest at about a quarter after, then other stuff is going to crack open -- live music, a evolve-your-own-pipe-clearer-hopeful-monster competition, a Darwin-shaped cake, and so on. It should be a good time... so come, bring friends, bring your copies of "Origin" to be signed by others in attendance, and bring your cameras so we can post some photos of the goings-on as evidence that, yes Virginia, atheists know how to have a good time.

Anyone who wants to arrive a little early to help set-up, give me a call --  [masked] -- or drop me an email; there are rumors of free tee-shirts for such volunteers.

People who can't make it tonight, might be able to make it out this Sunday for brunch with the Boston-area Skeptics. This and other events are on our events calendar at If you have any suggestions or requests for programs in the next six months or so, please let me know, or let me know if you'd like to attend the next meeting of the steering committee. Our group's only goal is to function according to the interests of our members, so, please make those interests known.

All best,
