Abstract:

IoT Hub is an Azure component to provide communications with fielded devices. It is billed as a simple method to provide light weight communications to the cloud from remote machines. Azure IoT Hub is design to simplify the development process for new and legacy devices.

I will explore some collecting of metrics into the cloud. The platform support multiple protocols. The clients can be .NET and other platforms. Also I will demonstrate the process chain from reception into data warehousing.

Clarke Bowers graduated high school from the Boys Latin School, and received a Bachelor in Computer Science from Lehigh University’s College of Engineering and Physical Science.

For the last thirty five years, He has worked as a software engineer and runs his own software engineering and software architecture business in Baltimore City.

Clarke has also taught computer science at Villa Julie College, now Stevenson University, and carries several Microsoft certifications.

He has lead and designed a wide range of engineering projects. These projects include medical instruments, energy derivative trading systems and computer digital tape backend units. His designs have earned him five software patents.

Clarke recently consolidated his MSDN Libraries CD's from nine to three binders. He enjoys playing squash and is a life member of The Society of the War of 1812 in the State of Maryland.

Becton, Dickinson and Company develops, manufactures, and sells medical supplies, devices, laboratory equipment, and diagnostic products worldwide. It operates in two segments, BD Medical and BD Life Sciences which employs 50,000 people.

Hunt Valley, Maryland is the headquarters of BD’s diagnostic systems (BDDS) division where they research, design and manufacture instruments and their consumables.

The instruments serve Microbiology and Molecular laboratories worldwide. BDDS continues to expand software engineering in Hunt Valley in the areas of embedded software, instrument control, Informatics, UX and cloud computing. BDDS has sixty software engineers working on projects in Hunt Valley. BDDS primarily employs a Microsoft .NET C# development stack.

Dinner will be provided. Also, a demonstration of several current generation instruments and a tour of a couple their engineering laboratories will be conducted.
