Some of the best coffee in the world comes from countries that are still in, or have recently emerged from decades of conflict. These countries face daunting challenges of transition from a conflict economy to a formal economy able to integrate both displaced populations and demobilised fighters.

Coffee offers countries and communities a way to support this transition and help poor farmers rebuild homes and communities’ shattered by violence.

Frank Smith and Angel Mario Martinez Garcia will consider some of the challenges and opportunities the coffee industry can offer conflict and post conflict countries, drawing on personal experience in the field as well as their professional engagement on the issue.
