Tidal Basin 1500 and 3K

If you run at lunch in the DC area, this may just be up your alley.  "Tidal Basin Runs" hosts a run every third Wednesday each month at Hains Point.  The event is free and open to all.  Come on out for this short distance run and see what you can do.  The course is fast and flat and barefoot friendly.

Perfect day for a run...barefoot. The temperature was great for shorts and t-shirt, and the runners were high in spirit due to the Thanksgiving holiday. I ran the 5k in 22 minutes, and I"m hoping to do a little better in 2 weeks.

It depends on your tollerance to cold and the elements but, in short, yes. I started in Jan of 2011 and had no trouble adapting. Things you want to look out for are fluid surfaces in below freezing temperatures. Those usually contain ice melting agents that would irritate bare feet at the very least. Frost bite is a great danger also. Always have a bail plan.

I haven't run bare in the snow yet but plan to give it a try this winter.
