PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF VENUE TO BASINGSTOKE MAKERSPACE.
The speaker for the July 2019 meeting of Basingstoke Cafe Scientifique at The Basingstoke Makerspace will be Tony Hersh from Newbury Astronomical Society. The subject of this evenings talk will be "A brief Tour of the Universe ... with Tony Hersh".
Astronomers are getting a much greater understanding of our Solar System, stars, galaxies and the rest of the Universe around us but there are still huge amounts that are unknown.
Tony is a keen amateur Astronomer and an active committee member of Newbury Astronomical Society and will be taking us through some of the more recent findings in Astronomy and highlighting some of the mysteries and unexplained observations in a talk open to everyone.
The Makerspace doors will be open from around 6.45pm before the talk which starts at 7:30pm, so you can get yourself a drink of tea or coffee and biscuits. This is a chance for a social chat with other participants and to have a look around the Makerspace facilities. Makerspace is not a licenced premises, so is unable to supply alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your own.
There is paid for parking in the evening opposite the building in Jacobs Yard or free parking behind the building at Kwik Fit on Southern Road. Please do not park at the front of the building unless you have a Makerspace parking permit.
The talk and discussions start at 7.30pm prompt and will aim to finish around 9:00pm. Everyone will be welcome to stay and have a chat with the speaker and Makerspace members after the talk.
The format of the evening is usually a talk of 30 to 40 minutes, followed by a short break so you can refill your cup of tea or coffee before the questions and discussions about the talk.
Cafe Sci talks are free and open to everyone. We will however be encouraging a donation towards the speakers expenses, venue and the tea, coffee and biscuits supplied during the evening. There will be a jar for you to put your donation into on the evening.
Cafe Scientifique is a place where, for the price of a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, anyone can come to explore and debate the latest ideas in science and technology.
