What we're about

Internet marketing is an exciting and rewarding field. Powerful new tools and technologies allow even the smallest businesses access to global markets and potentially huge profits.

Unfortunately there's also plenty of hype and misinformation around. What really works? How do you separate the solid techniques from the snake oil? And given all the possible things you could do to promote a business online, what should you FOCUS on?

We'll explore best practices in email marketing, search engine optimization, pay-per-click advertising, affiliate marketing, and all the other internet marketing methods. What are the most productive uses of social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook? And what new exciting tools are just around the corner? We address these topics and more at regular meetings that include talks from leading experts as well as time for networking.

Our group is the outgrowth and continuation of several classes related to Internet Marketing offered through the Stanford Continuing Studies Program. Our purpose is twofold: learning and connecting. We aim to provide a forum for entrepreneurs, business owners, and industry professionals to come together, share ideas and resources, and expand our knowledge.

Our events are open to anyone interested in building or promoting a business on the internet.

He is one of the world’s best known and most influential philosophers. Now David Chalmers joins us with his most ground-breaking and provocative idea yet.

Many more of the world’s biggest corporations are building a persistent virtual world, or “Metaverse”. Mark Zuckerberg even renamed Facebook around the company’s new mission. In time, these and other virtual worlds will become indistinguishable from the real world. But is VR any different to genuine reality? Can you live a good and meaningful life there?

David Chalmers became one of the world’s most influential philosophers when he coined the ‘Hard Problem’ of consciousness. Now he joins us with a bold and provocative new idea: that virtual worlds are not second-class worlds but as legitimate as the reality we already experience – and this is no bad thing.

He will bring entirely original thinking to critical questions about a virtual life – where our minds are and who we are if we exist in two places? How we can consider such values as sex, death, life and friendship in a virtual world, or lead a meaningful life, authenticate facts, build virtual societies and worry about new lexicons of meaning and language. What is reality, anyway? How do we know there’s an external world? Is there a god? We need to make decisions right now about how we use video games, smartphones, and the internet… eventually, we will have to decide whether or not to upload ourselves to the cloud entirely.

Don’t miss this chance to hear a major statement from one of our most important living philosophers – a bold new thesis will not only frame discussion of philosophy and technology for years to come but will profoundly shape how we think about our future.

About the Speaker:

David J. Chalmers is University Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Center for Mind, Brain, and Consciousness at New York University. He has given the John Locke lectures and has been awarded the Jean Nicod prize and the Jon Barwise prize. He has been ranked in The Philosopher’s Magazine as the second-most important living philosopher and was ranked 16th on the Prospect magazine’s list of the 100 most important world thinkers in 2015. He is the author of The Conscious Mind which has been translated into 10 languages.

Anyone can launch a podcast – but with two million other shows competing for listeners, you will need an edge to turn an idea into a chart-topper.

Renowned broadcaster Edie Lush is here to help.
We live in a golden age of audio. Unlike television, film, and radio, the podcast medium gives every aspiring storyteller a way to cut through the noise and reach an ever-expanding global audience.

Whether your taste leans towards the pioneering journalism of This American Life, the unmissable cultural conversations of The High Low, or the startling and innovative sonic landscapes of Love and Radio, podcasting is a playground where creators can communicate directly with listeners, sharing ideas and stories without the eye-watering costs, gatekeepers, or technical skill bar that restrict access to traditional broadcast media.

But standing out in the marketplace is not easy. As every podcaster knows, your competitors included some of the best funded and most experienced broadcasters and commentators of our time.

So how do you go about turning your dream into a reality?

Hosted by veteran broadcast journalist and renowned podcaster Edie Lush, this three-part livestream course will guide you through the fundamentals of devising, producing and launching a podcast series, with insider advice to save you months of research and ensure you don’t make mistakes that could hold back the potential of your show. We’ll help you hone your editorial, journalistic, and storytelling skills to gain a competitive edge and reach heights of excellence. And no less critically, we’ll help you develop a sponsorship model and get noticed – growing your audience and your finances to ensure your series is around for the long-haul.

Don’t miss this opportunity to receive expert guidance from two of veterans of broadcasting and podcasting.

Thursday 27th Jan – Session 1: The Format. What story are you trying to tell? Who are your team? Should you use scripts? How often should the podcast go out? This session will look in-depth at the creative process of defining and refining the core concepts of your show.

Thursday 3rd Feb – Session 2: The Launch. Show I use show notes and transcripts? What’s the social media strategy? Should I partner with other shows? This session focuses on how to find your audience.

Thursday 10th Feb – Session 3: The Tech. What’s the best microphone to use? What editing software should I use? How do I interweave music and silence do create the right atmosphere? What platforms should I target?
