Tired of sewing alone? Bring your sewing machines, patterns, fabric, and WIPs (works in progress), and let's sew together! If you don't want to bring your machine, you can trace/cut your patterns or fabric, do some fitting or hand sewing.

You can also get your measurements done at this meetup. I'll have worksheets available so you can get numbers for everything from your high bust to your waist-to-ankle measurement.

This meetup also features a sewing demo by sewing instructor, Craftsy blogger and Bay Area Sewists member Beth Galvin, who also blogs at SunnyGal Studio (http://sunnygalstudio.blogspot.com/). Beth will show how to take any shirt with a bust dart and convert it to shoulder gathers. If you have a shirt pattern with a bust dart, bring it to this meetup!

Also, Beth and Bay Area Sewisit member Dana Taylor will be available for fitting assistance. So bring your muslins and get help fitting the back or other areas that need help. Dana has five daughters and has years of experience fitting a variety of body types.

While you're at Lacis, be sure to check out the retail store (http://www.lacis.com/retail.html) where you'll find all kinds of lace, ribbons, embroidery and tapestry supplies, dozens of hand sewing needles, thimbles, millinery supplies, corset-making supplies, vintage patterns, and much more.

NOTE: There is a fee of $20 per person to reserve your space and to compensate Lacis for the use of their space ($15 goes to Lacis, processing fees, plus cleaning fee). We need to collect this fee in advance. The fee is nonrefundable because we need to ensure that we cover our room rental fee.

I'll bring some refreshments and you are welcome to bring some snacks to share!

Parking: There is metered street parking but it is limited. On the weekend, there's a flea market happening all day at the Ashby BART parking lot so you likely won't find a spot there. You might be able to find parking on a residential side street but be sure to check the parking signs for time limits. You might consider parking at either MacArthur BART or even North Berkeley BART and then taking BART to the Ashby stop and walking to Lacis. It's less than one block from the Ashby stop.

*On our Berkeley meetup days, ALL Bay Area Sewist members get a 20% discount at Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics (http://www.stonemountainfabric.com/)! So stop by their great store (2518 Shattuck Ave.) and when you check out, let them know you are a Bay Area Sewist member.
