Node School Night - Effective Javascript for Node.js development

Details

Javascript has been called one of the most popular languages that no one studies. It is as famous (notorious) for its bad parts as its good parts. But it is the language for Node and well suited for building REST APIs that are consumed over HTTP by browser applications and mobile devices, and to a wide variety of NoSQL data stores over HTTP, that all use JSON for data. While most available Javascript material tends to focus on Javascript in the browser, this event provides an orientation to the details of the language most helpful for getting started with Node development to build server applications. We will use various free tools to explore Javascript, include the Node CLI, Cloud9's hosted IDE (free version), among others. Mocha, an open source Node unit test framework will also be briefly introduced to demonstrate writing simple unit tests for Node modules.

Lightning talks: TBD

Food and beverages graciously provided by our sponsor, StrongLoop. StrongLoop is a major contributor to Node.js and is the developer of StrongLoop Suite, a leading Mobile API tier. Learn more at: http://strongloop.com/
