Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is typically played on a rectangular court with dimensions similar to a badminton court. The game is played with a solid paddle and a lightweight plastic ball with holes, similar in appearance to a wiffle ball.
Pickleball can be played as a singles or doubles game. The rules are somewhat similar to tennis, with players serving diagonally and trying to hit the ball over the net and into the opponent's side of the court. One unique feature of pickleball is the "non-volley zone," often referred to as the "kitchen," which is an area near the net where players are not allowed to hit the ball out of the air (volley) unless the ball has bounced first. This rule helps to prevent overly aggressive play near the net.
Pickleball is known for its social and inclusive nature, making it popular among people of all ages and skill levels. It can be played indoors or outdoors and has gained a lot of popularity in recent years due to its accessibility and the relatively low physical impact compared to some other racquet sports. The game is easy to learn for beginners, but can also offer a high level of competition for more advanced players.
