Harrington Road, South Kensington, London
With some of the finest scenery in the UK, the Lake District has long been a source of inspiration for poets and writers, notably Wordsworth, Ruskin and Beatrix Potter.
On this 2 night trip we will visit some of the district’s highlights – picture perfect villages, serene lakes and landscapes surrounded by jagged snow-capped peaks. On arrival, we will enjoy a gentle and scenic cruise on Lake Windermere, before having free time to explore bustling Bowness, on the shore of the lake.
Included in your trip is a 2 night stay in the three star Cumbria Grand Hotel, overlooking Morcambe Bay in Grange-Over-Sands, with dinner and breakfast!
On Saturday, we will visit the enchanting village of Hawkshead, where you will have free time to explore the cobbled lanes and passageways between the picturesque whitewashed cottages and the historic pubs. Here you can visit the Beatrix Potter Gallery, discovering the work of the Victorian children’s author and artist who created Peter Rabbit and friends.
Then follow in the footsteps of Wordsworth in Grasmere (pictured above), where you can visit Dove Cottage, the home that inspired him to compose some of his most well loved verses. See the daffodils for yourself! If you’re feeling energetic, you can walk the circuit of the pretty lake. Finally, we will take a short walk to ancient Castlerigg Stone Circle, surrounded by some of the Lake District's highest peaks.
Monday morning, we will head to the West of the Lake District, to take a scenic trip on the legendary miniature steam railway L’al Ratty. Our journey from Ravenglass to Eskdale will take in nature reserves, forests, rivers and views of the fells. Stop at Eskdale for a cream tea, or take a stroll to a historic pack horse bridge and mill.
After our railway journey, we will visit Muncaster Castle (pictured below), a striking stately home commanding incredible views over the valleys and mountains. It is reputedly one of the most haunted buildings in the UK! Explore the grand rooms, beautiful expansive gardens, and the World Owl Centre in the grounds, enjoy lunch in the stables café.
Our comfortable coach will then deliver you safely back to London.
