What we're about

😷😷😷 As of Jan 5, 2022 we are back to *10 people* for outdoors events until atleast Jan 26th folks! I know this is crappy news and the overall announcement today was hard on a lot of people. Hang in there -- let's just focus on staying healthy! We will get there! Tina♥️✨

☀️☀️☀️ Aug 15, 2021 -- Hi all, it's been an amazing summer so far, eh? But I suppose we WOULD say that in comparison to the H-E double hockey sticks of a year and a half that we've been through!! IMPORTANT UPDATE: The number of new people signing up to the group, to the events and even the number of events being posted by leaders, has slowed down pretty significantly which tells me many of us (including we event leaders), are getting back to some sense of normalcy in our lives, which is AMAZING! With the slower pace, I have not deposited any $5.00 e-transfers since the beginning of July (unless you were adamant that I did). Please note that those e-transfers cancel on their own after 30days and the $5 goes back into your account, or you may cancel it online yourself. Unless the group takes off again like it did last year, which brought a whole bunch of administrative issues to manage, we won't have the $5.00 annual fee for now. I look forward to meeting you! Tina❤

☀️☀️☀️ June 7, 2021 - WOOT! Step 1 for Ontario as of Friday June 11! Back to 10 people. Tina ❤✨

☀️☀️☀️ May 21, 2021 - we can get back to outdoor events with groups of 5, as of tomorrow! Tina ❤✨

😷😷😷 April 5, 2021 - There is a temporary suspension of organized events even for max of 5, even with masks and even with a commitment to 6-feet apart -- its too challenging to manage in the water and mud filled trails at this time. I AM offering private walks on clear, easy paths, only for those who 100% live alone 100% of the time. Those who fall into this very specific category can private message me. Hang in there everyone, see you all again as the vaccines continue to roll out! Tina

😷😷😷 Feb 16, 2021 - we can now get back to nature, in our physically-distanced, masked groups of 10! Reminder to walk single-file when others approach from the other direction.

😷😷😷 Jan 14, 2021 - Until the province answers the specific question "can groups of 5 be from more than only one other household", we will pause our events. Stay tuned!

😷😷😷 Dec 31, 2020 - In support of today's announcement by the City of Ottawa re: wearing masks at certain outdoor events, any events in this group which have been announced after today, require that we wear our masks during the activity, in addition to the physical distancing that we already do. This until further notice. We got this. Your mask will also keep your nose warm! Thank-you for your understanding everybody. HNY!

August 21, 2020

Hi! I'm starting a group for us very beginner outdoorsy folks, so that we can get in some summer watersports, beautiful nature hikes this Fall, maybe some tennis and golf/driving range time, and eventually some downhill skiing, cross-country and snowshoeing (I need hosts for many of these activities so please message me if interested). Events will take place in Ottawa and surrounding areas / neighboring towns, so you will need a vehicle to get to and from. Unfortunately there is **no** carpooling or ridesharing being promoted in this group, due to COVID.

The intent of this group during these very trying times, is to give people an opportunity to get out of their houses for fresh-air and exercise, and to meet some great new people at the same time.

**ABILITY/HEALTH: if you have even a single symptom resembling a Covid symptom, DO NOT attend events. Also, message your host directly if ill or think you may be ill - DO NOT post about health or attendance, on events walls. Additionally, do not attend these hikes or other events, if you do not have general good health or ability for endurance of at least 7-8km of brisk-paced walking or hiking. If you don't know your ability for long-distance brisk pace walking and hiking, check with your doctor who may also suggest that you test your endurance for these walks before joining events. *My personal test was being able to walk 7 KM around my neighborhood(s), at a brisk pace for a couple hours with no issues. If you can also do 7-8 KM with some inclines, hills, and stairs, at a brisk pace for atleast 2.5-3 hours, then you may be able to try the advanced beginner hikes that are occasionally posted.**

☀☀☀ GUIDING LIGHT ☀☀☀

  1. Until government rules and guidelines say otherwise, all Covid related rules apply during all events. *Additionally: if you have even a single symptom resembling a Covid symptom, DO NOT attend events. Also, message your host directly if ill or think you may be ill - DO NOT post about health or attendance, on events walls.
  2. Limited spots: DO NOT sign up unless you really intend to go. People rely on others to actually show up, and also you're holding a seat someone else could've had.
  3. Cancellation/No-show policy: aside from illness, should you need to cancel your attendance at any event in this group, please do so with a minimum of 24 hours notice to allow others the time to plan/prepare to attend. If you forget completely (it happens), as a courtesy I would suggest still message the host directly to let them know what happened, as they and probably the others in the event, were waiting for you...More than one 'no-show' or late cancellation within 24 hours, unless illness, may result in not being able to attend future events unfortunately. Sorry about the structure, but 'respect' for the hosts, the attendees and those on the waiting list, is paramount in this little world of Meetups. ✌
  4. I don't think this needs to be said but I will say it anyway. This is not a group for dating so do not approach anyone in this group for dat. Additionally, do not message other group members unless invited to do so.
  5. ABILITY/HEALTH (same text as above because it's SO important): if you have even a single symptom resembling a COVID symptom, DO NOT attend events. If you can also do 7-8 KM with some inclines, hills, and stairs, at a brisk pace for atleast 2.5-3 hours, then you may be able to try the advanced beginner hikes that are occasionally posted. **
  6. Last but not least, the fine print: you are responsible for yourself when attending these events. This means event organizers are not responsible for any personal losses of items, or issues you may experience regarding your personal health and/or your personal safety, whether you are on your way to events, while you're attending events, or while you're on your way home from events. You are responsible to check on and dress appropriately for the weather, including wearing the proper footwear, including wearing ice-cleats in the winter.

Thankyou all! Let's get out for some exercise, be in nature, and have some fun!!
Tina☀️
