Evening Zen Meditation Practice

Details

Please join us in the Zen practice of both seated and walking meditation, after which we'll make time for a short discussion about the practical aspects of meditation. Our practice is rooted in the Soto School lineage and is affiliated with the Order of Clear Mind Zen in New Mexico.

The meditation lasts approximately 1 hr, consisting of 2-3 sessions of seated meditation and 1 session of walking meditation (mindful walking).

Newcomers:

We welcome beginners! Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can give you an orientation to Zen meditation. (To familiarize yourself beforehand, we recommend reading the basic Zen meditation guidelines How to Sit Zazen (http://www.dogensanghalosangeles.org/about-zen/how-to-sit-zazen/) and How to Sit (http://www.compassionatepath.org/howtosit/).)

What to bring

We have a few meditation cushions you can use as well as a few chairs. If you have your own meditation cushion, chair or bench, please consider bringing it.

What to wear

We also recommend loose, comfortable clothing and easy to remove shoes (shoes are removed during walking meditation).

How to find us

We meet in room 331 (third floor) of the General Washington Executive Office Center (2217 Prince Anne St, Fredericksburg) across the street from Carl’s Frozen Custard. Take the elevator to the third floor. From the elevator, walk forward, not to the right, until you reach the end of the hallway. Room 331 is the very last room at the end; the door will be open.

Hatred never ceases by hatred.
But by love alone is healed
This is the ancient and eternal law.
