Session 1: How Kafka Connect and KSQL leverage Kafka fundamentals properties for real-time business value

In this session, Florent Ramière will dive straight into the fundamental properties that make Kafka so unique, scalable and robust.
We'll then see how you can leverage them with Kafka Connect with a pinch of KSQL to provide business value.
How these subjects can be packed in such a small amount of time ? Come join the fun, and see it for yourself!

Florent Ramière - Confluent - has more than twenty years of experience in software development and IT project management. After spending several years in the United States and co-founding the company Jaxio in France, Florent joined Confluent as a Technical Account Manager where he accompanies large accounts in Europe.

Session 2: "My pub-sub system is bigger than yours."

Kafka is a great messaging system if you have a limited set of clients that
work on a limited set of topics in the same network as your kafka brokers. But what if you need to connect millions of clients that work on millions of topics and are geographically distributed? This talk describes how you can implement a bi-directional messaging system on top of kafka that can scale to this size.

Bart Vercammen, Professional cloud software engineer @ Klarrio, capable of managing technology projects from concept to completion with remarkable deadline sensitivity. 23 years experience as a software engineer with expert knowledge in big data, real-time and distributed processing, high volume low latency messaging systems, Kafka and its entire eco-system.

-----
Session 3: Architecting fast data applications

Building fast data architectures that deliver scalable and resilient real-time applications is a challenging undertaking. They force architecture changes to meet new demands for reliability and dynamic scalability.

In this presentation, Gerard identifies the key characteristics of Fast Data application architectures, break down these architectures into functional blocks and explore some of the leading technologies that implement these functions.
In particular, we consider how Apache Kafka plays a central role in this architecture by providing a messaging backbone that enables the scalable and reliable message-based, asynchronous communication of the different components that constitute a Fast Data application.

Gerard Maas is a senior software engineer at Lightbend Inc., where he contributes to the Fast Data Platform and focuses on the integration of stream processing technologies.
He is the coauthor of Stream Processing with Apache Spark from O’Reilly.
Gerard is a frequent speaker and contributes to small and large open source projects. In his free time, he tinkers with drones, 3D printing, and builds personal IoT projects.
