How to Use Lean and Agile Principles to Help Structure a Winning Approach to Content Development

Thursday's talk will focus on lean and agile principles and how they can be applied to your company's content marketing and execution plan.

Larry Jacobsen will spend a few minutes introducing the concept.

David Burn, from Bonehook.com, a content provider based in Portland, will then offer insights and tips aimed at helping small to medium-sized enterprises get more bang for their content buck.

According to David, one of the main obstacles to running a successful content operation is resources. Where does a small business locate staff or an external resource to handle the complexities of a robust content program?

Content marketing, unlike advertising, is a daily practice, especially when you consider that social media marketing is usually lumped in with content.

A daily practice requires nimble players and you won't find many nimble people in traditional advertising agencies. A traditional advertising creative who makes ads for a living is used to having weeks to develop concepts, create comps, pitch the work internally, revise and polish the ideas before ever showing them to the client.

Now, let's compare this to the requirements that a content pro must bring to the table. Content pros work much closer to real time.

A blog post, for instance, might come to fruition in a matter of hours, receive little or no internal review and go live the same day.

If this sounds chaotic or haphazard it is not. These daily and hourly developments are guided by your company's content strategy and execution plan.
