What we're about

WiMLDS's mission is to support and promote women and gender minorities who are practicing, studying or are interested in the fields of machine learning and data science. We create opportunities for members to engage in technical and professional conversations in a positive, supportive environment by hosting talks by women and gender minority individuals working in data science or machine learning, technical workshops, networking events and hackathons. We are inclusive to anyone who supports our cause regardless of gender identity or technical background. However, in support of our mission, priority for certain events and opportunities will be given to women and gender minority members.

Our Code of Conduct ( https://github.com/WiMLDS/starter-kit/wiki/Code-of-conduct ) is available online and applies to all our spaces, both online and off.

• Follow @wimlds ( https://twitter.com/wimlds ) on Twitter for general WiMLDS news or visit http://wimlds.org to learn about our chapters in other cities.

• Women & gender minorities are invited to join the global WiMLDS Slack group by sending an email to slack@wimlds.org.

Workshop on how to win Kaggle datascience competitions by WiDS Bengaluru

We are organizing the datathon workshop at Bengaluru as a part of the WiDS Datathon initiative and as a WiDS Bengaluru preconference event. This workshop will provide directions on the how to write codes and use correct methodology/approaches to crack Kaggle datathons. The hands-on sessions, as well as demos, will help you become a pro in creating deep neural nets and boost your confidence to participate and win in Kaggle competitions which are highly regarded skills in the data science careers. What will you get from this workshop? 1) Fantastic mentors to coach and guide you in the datascience and datathon journey. 2) Recognition for the top scorers in the elite WiDS Bengaluru Conference. 3) Awesome opportunity to learn from domain experts on how to crack the Kaggle competitions to attract lucrative career opportunities. 4) Opportunity to network with other data scientists in the field. Agenda for the workshop: 1) Deep Learning overview: Introduction to Machine Learning and Neural Networks: Supervised/Unsupervised, Regression vs Classification, bias/variance, loss functions, model evaluation (precision/recall/f-score), optimization techniques, gradient descent, and CNN architectural overview. 2) Insights into Kaggle competition, participation, and demo: How to approach a datathon/hackathon problem? Best practices and demo of one of the NN models on sample dataset. 3) Networking event to get to know other data scientists and potential to form teams incase you have not formed a team yet. Workshop presenters: Priyanka Sawant: Priyanka is a Senior Lead Data Sciences at Envestnet | Yodlee India. She completed her masters from IIT Bombay. Priyanka works extensively on deep learning specifically for text data. Her area of expertise includes deep learning specifically CNN, RNN, word embedding techniques like word2vec, fasttext. Rahul Mitra: Rahul is working for Envestnet | Yodlee in the role of Lead - Data Sciences. He has experience in the data science field working for companies like IBM India Software Lab, TCS, and Yodlee. Rahul has a plethora of experience participating in hackathons. During his time in IBM, he won 3 hackathons with his team. Rahul has completed his M.Tech in IT, from IIT Kharagpur. Shreya Khare: Shreya Khare is a software engineer at IBM Research Labs. Her research interests include Machine Learning, Speech Processing, Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing. She is currently working on democratizing deep learning models using visual IDE. She has completed her MS by Research from IIT Madras where she had worked extensively on multimodal multimedia content analysis and its various application. Datathon Mentors: We have fantastic women data scientists as mentors who are subject matter experts from IBM and IBM Research labs. They have agreed to provide mentorship to the interested participants. Register, participate, collaborate and enjoy learning. Thanks, WiMLDS & WiDS Bengaluru Team
