Philosophy Talk LIVE: The Extended Mind with George Lakoff

Details
Stanford University philosophers John Perry (https://www-csli.stanford.edu/~jperry/) and Ken Taylor (https://www.stanford.edu/~ktaylor/), hosts of Philosophy Talk (https://philosophytalk.org/), the Bay Area's favorite philosophy radio show, will be taping two live programs at The Marsh (https://www.philosophytalk.org/LiveAtTheMarsh.html#23Jan11) in downtown Berkeley.
Our meetup will be for the 3:00 p.m. show (https://www.philosophytalk.org/LiveAtTheMarsh.html#23Jan11) with UC Berkeley cognitive scientist George Lakoff (https://linguistics.berkeley.edu/people/person_detail.php?person=21) on The Extended Mind:Though Descartes may have imagined the mind to be a thing separate and apart from the material world and from the body, an increasing number of psychologists and philosophers believe that to understand how the mind really works, we must understand it as both embedded in a body and as situated in an environment. According to some, in fact, the body and the environment do not just house the mind, but an essential part of the mind in the sense that workings of the mind depend upon and exploit the body and the environment. Join John, Ken, and their guest, noted linguist and cognitive scientist, George Lakoff, as they explore the extended mind, embodied cognition, and the situated self.
You will need to buy tickets by phone or in person at the Marsh (https://www.themarsh.org/tix.html), or online (https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/131172). The show is 90 minutes long and costs $15 in advance for this single event, or you can get a discount if you buy tickets for multiple shows. Tickets at the door (if any are left) are $20 each.
There will also be a separate Philosophy Talk live show the same day at 12 noon with the same hosts chatting with guest Ethan Watters (https://www.bloomsbury.com/authors/details.aspx?tpid=792) on "What is an adult?". This show (https://www.philosophytalk.org/LiveAtTheMarsh.html#23Jan11) requires a separate ticket.
