Talk 1: #pairdesign – What? How? Why? by Annamaria Boheim & Pilar
Abstract:Working as a designer can be a lonely business. But does it have to be?
While Pair Programming is a rather well established concept in a lot of software companies not many people have heard about Pair Design yet. A co-creation style of collaboration where two designers work together on one project at the same time.
At Pivotal, we believe that working in twos is beneficial for every practice (Devs, PMs and Designers etc) and it can distribute knowledge. We know that it can improve focus, confidence and the morale of the team, the flexibility of the project and most importantly the quality of the product.
With this talk we would like to give an introduction to the concept of Pair Design, share our experience and show examples and ideas of how to try it out in your current work setup.
Bios: Anna and Pilar are product designers and consultants at Pivotal Labs with a focus on user centered design and user research. Pivotal Labs opened the Berlin office late 2015 to help the new Volkswagen Digital:Lab prioritize user experience and software mobility services.
Anna has more than 8 years experience as a UX Designer for various clients in digital agencies (Kiska, AGENTUR.net) in Austria and e-commerce start-ups (Hem and DaWanda) here in Berlin. She particularly enjoys working in collaborative environments, learning and applying new methods and tools (e.g. Jobs-To-Be-Done framework) and consuming way too much cat content.
Pilar has over 12 years of experience. In the past she worked for digital health CGM, music and entertainment (Juke), telecommunications (Telefonica Madrid). She likes to read, listen to music, continuously learn about design and user experience. She is also interested in people, social change, cultural movements, art, food, cities and how technology is reshaping everything.

Talk 2: What We Think, What We Do, What We Think We Do by Daniel Trattler
Abstract: Between 36% and 57% of people say they never answer survey questions. Daniel will speak about some of the pitfalls of opinion research and polling. Topics will be drawn from the current and past US Presidential races, probability theory, risk assessment, media manipulation and the biology of behavior. Alternative approaches will be discussed time permitting.
Bio: Born into the chain store despair of the great white people’s hatching ground called Long Island, Daniel Trattler escaped at his first chance and moved to big city New York and Chicago. He studied math, created performance art, did scientific experiments and made art zines before moving to Berlin in 1993. Wanting to start fresh he began working as a graphic designer and in 2000 co-founded the agency eobiont, which is specialized in public awareness, high-tech, innovation and sometimes making the world a better place.
