Talk & Play #28

Details

Important: RSVP via Meetup is mandatory to attend the talks, due to limited seating capacity. Please note that registration won’t be required to attend the event from 21:00 for the game showcase part.

Talk & Play is a free event, taking place every two months, that provides the opportunity to game enthusiasts, players and makers to meet in a friendly, relaxed and safe environment. Everybody's welcome, regardless of their background and knowledge level: if you like games, we'll make sure you have a good time! This is NOT an event only aimed at developers.

This edition of the event is kindly sponsored by Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com), a global community built around creativity and creative projects. Make sure to check out Drip (https://d.rip/), their new tool to support creators on an ongoing basis.

HOW IT WORKS

The event is structured in two parts:

— TALK: Short game-related presentations + announcements from the community

— PLAY: All participants are welcome to bring games they've made or are still working on so that the audience can play them – a perfect opportunity to discover and play new games, collect feedback and, who knows?, maybe find collaborators for future projects.

THE TALKS

This will be the last Talk & Play of 2017, and since it's been a long and hard year for many people, we thought about doing something a bit different for once: we want to have a series of short talks (5 minutes long or less), all about something positive (and game-related) that happened to you in 2017.

Krishna Israney: Zelda got me back to Exploring
Systems in Zelda that afford exploration and their impact on the player.
—Krishna is a designer, animator and a part-time foodie.

Sjors Houkes: Please, leave this Meetup
Why are you still here? For the sake of games, please stop talking. Stop playing. Leave now.
—Whatever you might think Sjors does, it’s probably something else: some say its voice acting, others say he’s a watercolour artist, or a sculptor, some even claim they have seen him run events at the Game Science Center. But who really knows.

Nomi: Scrambleshake17 DEMO – how we did not organise this egg'n'chill parasitic community event
I'll talk about what is scrambleshake and our missions (?) very quickly and conduct a super quick demo version of the event
—Nomi makes videos!!!!!

Troy Duguid: D_E_C_E_N_T_R_A_L_I_Z_E!!
Discoveries on alternative methods for game development OR how i learned to stop caring and love the hive mind.
—Troy Duguid is an artist using game engines to create interactive 3D experiences. Troy is also a member of the collective aaartgames, who recently released their latest interactive anthology datamutations.aaartgames.xyz. Troy also likes long walks on the beach and sunsets.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Our Safe Space Policy (http://berlingamescene.com/safe-space-policy/) encourages the behaviour at Talk & Play. We request that everyone who is affiliated with and participates to the event honours it.

Our event is documented in pictures (https://www.flickr.com/photos/12601747@N00/albums) (thank you Julian (https://twitter.com/spunior)!) and videos (https://vine.co/BerlinGamez) (thank you Nomi (http://thenomi.com/)!). Documentation is important for us, as it helps promote the event and attract a new, wider and more diverse audience (that's how it worked so far at least). For those who'd like to attend, but don’t want to be appear in any pictures or videos, we're going to distribute some neon stickers at the door that you can wear on your chest to make it clear that you don't want to appear in any picture or video.

The event is free to attend, but donations are welcome. BerlinGameScene.com supporter packs (featuring an exclusive tote bag, badges, stickers, a Steam key of a game made in Berlin and a Game Science Center coupon) are also available for purchase at Game Science Center. Buying one really helps us!

SPONSORS

This edition of the event is kindly sponsored by Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/), a global community built around creativity and creative projects. Make sure to check out Drip (https://d.rip/), their new tool to support creators on an ongoing basis.
