14th BigData/DataScience Meetup (Apache Mesos & Artificial Intelligence)

Details

Hi everyone,

We are excited to announce our next meetup !

For this meetup we prepared two presentations related to Apache Mesos and Artificial Intelligence.

Schedule:
18:00 - 18:25 - Food, drinks and time to meet new/old friends!

18:25 - 18:30 - Welcoming speech by Daniel Sârbe @ SDL

18:30 - 19:20 - Apache Mesos and DC/OS introduction by Matt Jarvis @ Mesosphere, Inc.

Apache Mesos is a distributed system for running other distributed systems, often described as a distributed kernel. It's in use at massive scale at some of the worlds largest companies like Netflix, Uber and Yelp. DC/OS is an open source distribution of Mesos, which adds all the functionality to run Mesos in production across any substrate, both on-premise and in the cloud. In this talk, I'll introduce both Mesos and DC/OS and talk about how they work under the hood, and what the benefits are of running these new kinds of systems for emerging workloads. Bio

Matt Jarvis(https://www.linkedin.com/in/mattjarvis08/) is Director of Community and Evangelism at Mesosphere, engaging with the communities around DC/OS and Mesos. Matt has spent more than 15 years building products and services around open source software, on everything from embedded devices to large scale distributed systems. Most recently he has been focused on the open cloud infrastructure space, and in emerging patterns for cloud native applications. 19:20 - 19:40 - Break

19:40 - 20:30 - Automated software development using artificial intelligence
by Răzvan Florian, Mihai Baba and Cătălin F. Perțicaș @ Romanian Institute of Science and Technology

Automated software development with machine learning techniques has become a reality and is leading to increasingly interesting results. We will discuss the state of the art of the field and we will present some artificial intelligent systems that automatically generate software, developed in Cluj at the Romanian Institute of Science and Technology.

Răzvan Florian(https://www.linkedin.com/in/rflorian/) is a principal investigator at the Romanian Institute of Science and Technology. He is the author of several learning rules for spiking neural networks (the third generation of neural network models). The essential components of one of these rules, developed through mathematical derivations and computer simulations, have been later found by neuroscientists in the brain. He has also founded two IT companies, Arxia (which he has exited) and Epistemio. He is now working on machine learning models.

Mihai Baba is a research assistant at the Romanian Institute of Science and Technology, working on applying machine learning techniques for automation of software development. He has received his BSc degree from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, where he is also currently studying for his MSc degree. He also participated in multiple national and international mathematics olympiads as a student. He has previously worked as a freelance web developer and as a malware researcher at Bitdefender. His current research interests are in the area of machine learning techniques and applications, specifically program synthesis.

Cătălin F. Perțicaș is a research assistant at the Romanian Institute of Science and Technology. He graduated at Jacobs University, Bremen, Germany and he has previously worked at Microsoft in USA and Canada and at Fraunhofer MeVis, Germany. He has won multiple medals at national and international computer science olympiads.

At the end of the meetup, we will find some place to drink few beers and to continue socializing!

We want to thank SDL (http://www.sdl.com/) for hosting this meetup!
