  • Big Data & Analytics meetup 2019/04

    Cloudera Budapest Office

We are jointly organizing this event with Cloudera Tech Meetup Budapest (https://www.meetup.com/Cloudera-Tech-Meetup-Budapest/) Agenda: 18:00 Doors open 18:30 Talks (3 x 20 mins + Q&A) 20:00 Networking 21:00 End of Meetup The first talk will be held in Hungarian, the rest of the meetup is going to be English. Talks: 1) DataWorks Summit útibeszámoló - Az "új" Cloudera A Cloudera és a Hortonworks januári egyesülése óta először a márciusban Barcelonában megrendezett DataWorks Summit konferencián mutatta be a két cég a jövőre vonatkozó terveiket. Az előadás összefoglalja, hogy mire számíthatunk a Big Data világában az egyesülés utáni "új" Cloudera-tól. Arató Bence, ügyvezető, BI Consulting 2) Druid case study At Lynx Analytics we provide data science insights for our clients on hundreds of millions of their customers. We build interactive dashboards to make our data science results easy to digest. The dashboards are powered by Druid, an open-source high performance analytics database. I will talk about how Druid works, how we use it, and how satisfied we are. (Very.) Darabos Dániel, Senior Software Engineer at Lynx Analytics 3) Cloud Native Machine Learning: Emerging Trends and the Road Ahead Data platforms are being asked to support an ever-increasing range of workloads and compute environments, including machine learning and elastic cloud platforms. These new workloads and environments introduce challenges for both end users and cluster administrators. Data scientists want the flexibility to run interactive and batch analysis with on-demand compute, data engineers want to ensure the scalability and reliability of production workloads, and cluster administrators want to maintain governance and control over cluster resources and costs. Cloudera has built a machine learning platform, optimized for the cloud, that seeks to balance these competing objectives. Matt LaMantia will discuss emerging capabilities in the industry and some of the key design choices they made, including leveraging Kubernetes as a cloud-optimized compute layer and running Spark with a serverless experience. He will also share Cloudera's vision for the road ahead for enterprise machine learning and AI in the cloud, and the role of our Budapest engineering team in creating this future. Venue and Catering will be provided by Cloudera.

The Mother of all Query Languages: SQL in Modern Times ——————————————————— Did you know the purely relational dogma of SQL was already abandoned in 1999? The last SQL standard that was limited to the relational idea was SQL-92. From SQL:1999 onwards, the SQL language was extended with non-relational operations and non-relational data structures. As much as this move was discussed at that time, it took decades until database vendors caught up with this idiomatic change. Many SQL users haven’t heard of it until today. The year 2018 finally marks the turning point. With the release of MySQL 8.0 all major SQL dialects finally support the most important non-relational concepts of SQL. This talk provides the big picture on the evolution of the SQL standard. You will see that SQL has changed as much as our requirements have changed over the past decades. by *Markus WINAND* Markus Winand is an independent author, trainer and consultant on all things SQL. His book “SQL Performance Explained” has just been translated into a fifth language. It can be purchased as a print edition, and it’s also available to read for free on his use-the-index-luke.com website. Markus is currently working on his second book centered on the idea that things have changed a lot since SQL-92. It is likewise available free of charge online (modern-sql.com). // GOOD TO KNOW You can attend this meetup for free!
