Two week big adventure- 15 day mission to St Croix, hurricane relief via FEMA
Want to take a 15 day hurricane relief mission trip to St Croix, you get free airfare and $50 per diem towards daily expense. Room and board is $30 that you pay out of the $50. It is open regardless of religious affiliation. Opportunity is in Virgin Islands, St. Croix St. Croix was ravaged by back-to-back Category 5 hurricanes, Irma and Maria in September of 2017. In response to this disaster, a partnership has been formed between UMVIM, FEMA, and Lutheran Disaster Response. UMVIM teams are needed to repair/rebuild homes for residents of the island. This project consists of individual team members spending a minimum of 15 days on the island. We are also seeking team leaders willing to recruit and organize a team(s). Each team will include: -A team leader who will provide team support and serve as a liaison with FEMA and Lutheran Disaster Response. -Skilled volunteers with construction experience; roofing experience is very beneficial. -General helpers willing and able to assist in any way necessary. -Team members able to perform strenuous work while being in the sun an average of eight hours each day. FEMA will provide round-trip airfare and $50 per diem for housing, food, and miscellaneous expenses. ● Each volunteer must bring his/her own twin bed sheets, pillow/pillowcase, and towels. Laundry facilities are available. ● UMVIM insurance is available if needed. The cost varies by the coverage option selected, but is very reasonable. ● Registration fee of $85. This covers the cost of a lodging deposit (deducted from your final invoice), team money, and team t-shirt. ● Money for optional weekend activities. Questions? Each team leader will take copies of the forms submitted by his/her team members to St. Croix to be available in case of emergency. We're a community of active weekend cycling adventurers mostly from New Jersey. We organize intermediate rides for trail, road and mountain cyclists in the midatlantic region. We sometimes organize kayak tours, hikes, and post-activity pub meet-ups. More social than athletic.
