This is another BL classic weekend tour. This ride is designed to be a one or two day cycling event. You will be surprised how much of this tour is off the main Great Western Highway. All roads are sealed. Experienced riders please. RIDE DISTANCE: DAY 1: 60km DAY 2: 60km RIDE DESCRIPTION: DAY 1: Saturday 60km Hard Starting at the base of the blue mountains in the sleepy township of Emu Plains, we cross under the highway and along the back streets of Lapstone until we reach Glenbrook village. This village presents us with the opportunity for an early morning tea. Onwards via back roads, we cross the highway a couple times before reaching Springwood, our midpoint. Just beyond the next township’s railway station, Faulconbridge we travel on the highway for a short distance. At Woodford we leave the highway for the duration of our journey to Katoomba. The back roads are undulating compared to the highway but well worth seeing parts of the mountains you may not have seen before. We pass by my old school haunt, the Wentworth Falls Lake. Yes, it’s still there! Not much further to Katoomba. DAY 2: Sunday 60 km Medium Starting from Katoomba, we pretty much retrace our steps from Saturday. Yes, there are some uphill climbs but naturally a NETT downhill journey to Emu Plains or Penrith. One year, some mad folk rode all the way back to Sydney!! We do make an interesting deviation at Glenbrook and traverse down Mitchells Pass and over the historic Lennox Bridge. I think it’s the oldest bridge in Australia.. Options 1. Join the 2 day tour staying Saturday night at Katoomba. Train to the ride start 2. Join only for the Saturday ride. Train home from Katoomba 3. Join only for the Sunday ride. Train up to Katoomba on Sunday morning or the Saturday night 4. On Saturday, you may want to start the ride further up the mountains (eg: Springwood). This would make for a shorter and easier ride. A 2nd ride leader will take the group from Springwood 5. On the Sunday, there are plenty of railway stations that you could exit from the ride to catch a train home GRADE: Day 1: Hard Day 2: Medium RIDE ORGANISER: Heather Manning[masked] RIDE LEADERS: Grant Rogers[masked] Bob Dunn[masked] MEET AT: Central railway station – Blue Mountains platform GETTING THERE AND BACK: Saturday train 7.24am from Central, Strathfield 7.37 arrives Emu Plains 8.17 (Riders starting from Emu Plains only) 8.24am from Central, Strathfield 8.37 arrives Springwood 9.44 (Riders starting from Springwood only) Sunday train 7.24am from Central, Strathfield 7.37 arrives Katoomba 9.25 Train back on Sunday from Emu Plains or Penrith depending on train frequency at Emu Plains. Timetable confirmed one week prior. Please Note: The non-existence of trackwork on the Blue Mountains line will need to be confirmed to allow this ride to start from Emu Plains/Springwood on the Saturday. If trackwork is scheduled, we may need to consider starting the ride from Richmond and cancelling the option of riders coming up from Sydney on the Sunday.
