Richmond To Ockham Common, Surrey (18x2) (36) miles, all levels welcome.
Please join us for a ride out from Richmond to Ockham common in Surrey. Managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust this 800 acre area of woodland and common land is wonderful to explore any time of year. A Rare heathland habitat by the side of the M25. This ride is suitable for beginners, (although not complete beginners) and you should have some experience of cycling on roads. Road bikes, CycloCross bikes or hybrids with slim tyres (without suspension) would be best suited for this ride, if you are unsure, please email me on [masked] to see if your bike is suitable. Please note bicycles are allowed on the district, hammersmith & city, circle, overground and the above ground sections of all the other lines at the weekends. We welcome cyclists who are new to road cycling. You will be looked after and not left to fend for yourself. For those cyclists who do not wish to do the whole route there will be a few train stations along the route, so if you wish to join us for part of the ride and then take the train back en route you are welcome to. The total mileage including the lunch stop will be approx 36 miles .This is reasonably flat route, with a few undulating sections. Here is the plan for our day: 1) Meet outside Richmond station by Whsmith, near main entrance. 2) Cycle to Okham ( 2hours). 3) Lunch ( 1hour ) 4) Cycle back to Richmond by the same route ( 2hrs) 5) Optional drinks in Richmond Our overall average cycling speed including stops will be approx 12mph, which translates as approx 14-18mph on flat roads, depending on the direction of the wind ! No one will be left behind, however if you are struggling to keep up then we will talk to you about how you are feeling and if necessary advise you to leave the ride and give you directions to the nearest station. Helmet, lights and a spare inner tube will be compulsory. It is also recommended that you have a bell (although not compulsory). This meetup will be weather dependent so 12 hours before the event begins if heavy rain is forecast then the event will be cancelled, please check the website the evening before the event begins. If you are not sure that you will be able to cope with the speed and the distance please email Suki for some advice on [masked].
