August Biotech Networking Opportunities

From: Laura S.
Sent on: Thursday, August 14, 2014 8:18 AM

There will be no Biotech in WI Meetup in August because we've been busy working with Forward Festival to help bring more biotech to their events. Check out the three opportunities below during the week of August 25th.

Clash of the Tech Trivia Titans

The Clash of the Tech Trivia Titans is a fast-paced trivia and social event that focuses on biotech, IT, life sciences and Madison as it relates to technology.

The event takes place during the evening of Monday, August 25th at Brickhouse BBQ (408 W. Gorham Street).  Participants will get to show off their knowledge about technology and there will be opportunities to demonstrate originality and skill. You can come with a team or we’ll connect you with others in forming a team or augmenting your team.  Having a team with members who have diverse technology backgrounds will likely be handsomely rewarded with “fabulous gifts and prizes.”

Tickets are just $10 in advance and they get you admission to the event, appetizers and 2 drinks from the bar.

Biotech as a Metaphor for Life via Pecha Kucha

Madison is a hotbed for Biotechnology firms doing cool things like building medical diagnostic testing kits, supporting groundbreaking research and  developing new products that will shape the way we look at farming in the future.  Come join us for the evening and listen as some interesting folks tell us about some of the thrilling, peculiar and sometimes just plain crazy insights they have gained about life through working in the field of Biotechnology.

The presenters include: Peter Fuhrken from Cellular Dynamics, James Smagala from the Center for Disease Control, Mark Cook from University of Wisconsin – Madison, Laura Heisler from Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), Dave McCabe from the Midwest  Laboratory Robotics Interest Group and JoAnne Robbins from Swallow Solutions.

This event is free and open to the public on Thursday August 28, 2014 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm at Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center

Forward Festival Startup Showcase

The 2014 Forward Festival Startup Showcase will put Madison's top startups on the big stage at the Majestic Theatre. Join us on Wednesday, August 27 for an exciting evening of networking and presentations.

Last year, the inaugural Startup Showcase  brought over 200 entrepreneurs, business leaders, and civic leaders together to hear pitches from emerging companies. This year, we’ll feature 10 new startup companies - each will take the stage for 5 minutes to tell their story. The companies will include bio/health tech companies such as Dock Technologies, HealthMyne and Clemetric. We’ve also invited back the startups who presented last year to give 1 minute quick fire updates on their progress.

The Startup Showcase is presented by Capital Entrepreneurs and Accelerate Madison.

Want to attend? Startup Showcase event admission is included for all Forward Technology Conference attendees and Forward Pass holders. A limited number of event-only tickets are also available for Accelerate Madison and Capital Entrepreneurs members.
