Nathan Bruner - From Zero to Istio With ASP.NET Core, Docker, and Kubernetes
From the creation of Docker and the first use of containers as an application build target, the technology surrounding containers and container management has grown at breakneck speed. Many .NET developers know that .NET CORE can run on Linux containers, but the perceived learning curve of getting up to speed on Linux and Bash, Docker, and Kubernetes, and making those technologies work with a .NET app can seem daunting. In this talk we'll walk through building a simple, full-stack ASP.Net web service on those exact technologies (and we'll even throw a Postgres DB in for good measure). We'll also walk through the basic steps for getting a Windows machine dev setup to run Linux Docker containers, Kubernetes, and Google’s new Kubernetes-based service mesh platform: Istio. Nathan first developed a love for code at age 10, writing simple console utilities in BASIC. After a brief detour into law school and a 3 year legal career, Nathan returned to development and hasn't looked back. Since then, he has 11 years professional experience working in desktop- and web-based applications, and now works for EBSCO Industries as a Solutions Architect.
