ECS on AWS – An Introduction

Doug Thomson

A Platform Automation Engineer with over 17 years experience working on large scale Enterprise Services in the Public Sector. Main interests include AWS, open source tooling, Platform Automation and culture/organisational change.

I will provide a short introduction to the Amazon EC2 Container Service, along with a demo building a simple ECS cluster running a small microservice.

OpenShift
Jarek Grzabel

I’m very Linux focused and I love to discover new technology and work on it. I have a lot of interest in cloud computing, automation, programming languages and Linux. I have been using Linux for over 18 years now and I have a strong webhosting background.

My demonstration will be about OpenShift, complete cloud platform which simplifies a lot (if not all) of delivery and integration processes.

A Portable Kubernetes Cluster
James Relph & Jack Doherty

James has over 12 years experience working with enterprise IT systems and has worked with containerisation technology since before it was cool, back in 2009, when OpenSolaris did it properly. He probably likes AWS a little too much and will tell you about ZFS if you ask, or often if you don’t.

Jack is a platform automation engineer with a deep interest in all things Linux.

This demonstration will be an examination of a portable Kubernetes architecture, it’s deployment in AWS via a Concourse based CI pipeline (which we will run live and without a safety net). We will also explain the decisions behind the approaches and tools used and how this could be migrated to other cloud providers.

And potentially a guest speaker or two....

Come along and join in the discussion.
