Culture, DevOps & Ways of Working!
Our next meetup will visit the world of Culture, DevOps & Ways of Working. The lineup is now finalised, and as usual it'll be an interesting evening of Tech Talk, Demos and Networking, with a few drinks and nibbles to boot 😁
The event will take place at The Old Joint Stock (http://www.oldjointstock.co.uk/) in Birmingham, starting at 18:00. We've booked the larger Theatre so there is plenty of space to bring your colleagues along.

17:30-18:00 - Meet & Greet
18:00 - Andy Burgin - DevOps Transformation
A Case of History Repeating - At Sky Betting and Gaming we've been on a Devops journey since 2011. We've undertaken numerous "Devops Transformations" and learned that this is an ongoing program rather than a "Big Bang" initiative. As the company has restructured in to agile autonomous tribes and squads, we've identified and reused a number of patterns and techniques as we've evolved our ways of working. This talk aims to share those learnings. This talk will focus on the practical rather than strategic.
Andy is a Platform Engineer at Sky Betting and Gaming. He considers himself a Kubernetes and Hadoop fettler, spending a far too much of his spare time making Raspberry Pis do things they shouldn’t. He was a small part of the organising team for DevOpsDays London 2018 and has been running the Devops meetup in Leeds for 6 years hosting over 40 events. He’s attended and spoke at a bunch of DevOps conferences and in his own words is ‘an all round DevOps nuisance’.
18:30 - Tim Simpson - The Continuous Learning Dilemma
The biggest problem facing the IT industry today, namely continuous learning. Find out how to rise up to the challenge to build a learning culture.
Tim Simpson is a Senior Solution Architect within the Architecture Practice at Capgemini UK, having worked on large government accounts for more than 12 years and with more than 3 decades experience of working in the IT industry. He is currently Capabilities Lead within the Digital workspace, he is challenged with a busy but exciting place to work.
19:00 - Break - Food & Drink
19:20 - Paul Jacques - Culture Change Done? Think Again!
Ouch! A few years in and the rate of change in the industry continues. Cloud, Digital, Automation, Agile... all part of the driving force behind the new age "Revolution". But the challenges of keeping your people engaged, focused and ultimately happy in todays workplace is immense. Gone are the days when an engineer or developer happily sat down and did what ever came their way. Our people today want more than choice, they want interesting innovative work. And alongside this they want opportunities to explore, excel and be challenged. This session looks at the challenges facing the leaders of today in keeping their people happy, and some of the working practices in place, helping to ensure the culture doesn't die! Long live the revolution!
Paul is a senior architect within Capgemini. Coming into the IT Industry through an apprenticeship he has built a wide skillset across multiple sectors including Large Government, Banking, Insurance and Telephony. Having moved into a leadership position over the past few years his passion is now enabling new talent to excel. In a landscape of constant change, he fosters a culture of innovation and continuous learning. A keen advocate for DevOps, and co-organiser for the Birmingham Digital & DevOps MeetUp, he regularly shares his passion and insight with schools and universities to help shape our future generation.
20:00 - Close & Networking.
