⚡ Lightning Workshop: Incentivizing Mesh Networks + Be Your Own Fan with Matreon
Details
The Lightning Network will continue to be one of the hottest topics in our space, so let's start a series of workshops.
Sjors Provoost, contributor to Bitcoin Core and c-lightning, and Jörg Hermsdorf from CONSERVE Blockchain-Service will instruct us today about setting up Lightning for specific use cases.
There can be never enough WiFi hotspots. Jörg will introduce his project in which he forked Freifunk. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freifunk
Freifunk is meant to be free as in speech as well as free as in beer, but maybe a lot more people will set up routers if they can earn a few bits of crypto-coins lightning-streamed from our wallets?
Sjors will demonstrate how to set up Matreon, a self-hosted platform to receive recurring donations. https://btcmanager.com/matreon-may-soon-reward-creators-via-bitcoins-lightning-network/
We will actively set up a full node and lightning on AWS, pay ourselves and then take the money out again.
Please have an installed Bitcoin Core node synchronized to testnet ready on your laptops! https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Running_Bitcoin
Target Audience: Strongly technical. Developers, advanced Bitcoin followers, or mesh network enthusiasts.

Sjors Provoost previously worked at blockchain.info on their wallet software, who now support him developing and contributing to free and open source software. He works mostly on Bitcoin Core, a tiny bit on c-lightning, and more recently started working on Matreon, a self-hosted lightning powered powered Patreon alternative.

Thanks to the Bavarian Pirate Party for hosting us! They also have an open-air terrace to hang out if the weather is nice.
(Our meetup group is organized by independent enthusiasts and not affiliated with venues, sponsors, or presenters of this or past events. Viewpoints expressed by our speakers do not necessarily represent our own. We aim to educate by putting forward the various viewpoints and opinions in the crypto-currency and blockchain space, encouraging discussions to enable everyone to make up their own minds. In particular, our program is not to be understood as investment advice.)

Almost certainly, this one evening won't be enough, especially the mesh router will require a lot of collaborative work, so let's go to Berlin on the following Saturday to Fulmo's Lightning Hackday #2 and continue there! https://www.meetup.com/Bitcoin-Lab-Berlin/events/250935489/
