How Crypto is Saving Venezuela

Bitcoin Center Korea (BCK)

This Saturday we're hosting a special guest, Juan Peña Salas, who will present his experiences on life in Venezuela and on how Venezuelans are using bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to navigate the challenges of hyperinflation there. * * * Venezuela's national currency has the highest inflation rate in the world. Surpassing 1 million per cent in 2018, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects that the rate of inflation will reach 10M percent this year. The economic data chosen, analysed, and presented by the IMF, and by similar institutions, gives the outside world a top-down and generalised view of what is actually happening to individuals within societies there. Social media presents us with other less centralised yet less organised accounts. With limitations in awareness, how can we understand the market activity as presented in the chart here: https://coin.dance/volume/localbitcoins/VES/BTC --1,120 BTC in volume for the week of[masked]. LocalBitcoins weekly BTC volumes in Venezuela now outnumber those of the US, where volumes are declining. Why the growing demand for bitcoin? How do such markets work? And more importantly, what does bitcoin and cryptocurrency mean for people living in a country in which the financial, social, and political systems, appear to be failing them now? But scratch the outsider perspective. Join us this Saturday as special guest Juan Peña Salas shares with us his voice on what is happening now in his home country of Venezuela and what solutions he and others are finding in cryptocurrencies. Please be prepare to engage and be engaged in order to learn, understand, and participate. Cheers~
