What we're about

This group is for people interested in creating more space for the unique needs of people of color inside the self-directed learning (unschooling) movement.

For our families, it’s learning primarily at home, with field trips, volunteerism, and classes. What we're missing is being around like-minded folks who look like us. Unschooling is a vehicle for liberation; a way to walk a path rooted in our strengths and deepest interests. We are our own universities and classrooms, because we cannot help but learn. This group was formed to bring together people who believe in self-directed learning, also known as “unschooling” from an Afro-centric point of view. Our group is focused; not exclusive. The goal of this group is to DEVELOP COMMUNITY online and in-person.

Our Desires:

1.We desire to have regular interactions so our children can grow together within this community.

2.We desire a local adult community that can support on one another as we go through the journey of self-directed learning.

3.We desire a place where we can share resources.

We understand that we are all in different stages of our unschooling journey and we respect that. This group will focus on the self-direct learning/unschooling philosophy and not a traditional homeschooling philosophy. There are many wonderful groups that follow curriculum and that way of school. If that’s what you are looking for, we encourage you to find a group that will focus on that for you.
