What we're about

You can visit our official website at blacknonbelievers.org (http://blacknonbelievers.org/).

BN is a 501c3 nonprofit secular fellowship dedicated to providing an informative, caring, festive and family friendly environment. We strive to connect with other Blacks (and allies) who are living free of religion and irrational beliefs who might otherwise be shunned by family and friends. Instead of accepting dogma, we seek to determine truth and morality through reason and evidence.

Mission Statement
The mission of Black Nonbelievers is to…
• Provide secular fellowship.
• Nurture and support nonbelievers in coming out.
• Promote atheist pride.
• Organize nonbelievers for charitable causes.

Meetings
BN members meet to discuss topics relevant to secular living as well as to socialize. As a community we celebrate birthdays, holidays, and other ocasions. We offer workshops and other gatherings to educate the public on the views of nonbelievers. We also sponsor a Recovering from Religion (RR) group to assist those in need of support while questioning their faith or dealing with the challenges of leaving religion. See our Calendar (http://blacknonbelievers.wordpress.com/calendar/) for details on specific meetings and activities.

BN welcomes all regardless of sex, sexuality, gender identity, age, national origin, or race.

Recovering from Religion's Fall Excursion.

Asheville

Recovering from Religion presents the first ever annual Fall Excursion! Set amidst the tranquil mountains of North Carolina, The excursion will offer a space where attendees can find guidance, friendship, and experience personal growth in a warm and accepting environment. There are planned events and workshops so that you can have fun, learn, relax, and do as little or as much as you like. There will also be several trained volunteers as well as mental health specialists on site to make sure that everyone’s experience is just right for them. Speakers and workshop presenters include: * Sarah Rocksdale, creator of the popular Youtube channel Sarah Rocksdale, which covers a wide variety of topics, including religion recovery. Having experienced a Jesus Boot Camp, Sarah knows firsthand the damage that bad ideas can inflict on someone’s life, and is passionate about sharing the positive effects of walking away from religion. * Mandisa Thomas, president and founder of Black Nonbelievers, an organization that works to encourage more Blacks to come out and stand strong with their nonbelief in the face of strong religious overtones. She has made appearances on CBS News, NPR, and CNN. Mandisa was named Person of the Year by the Unitarian Universalist Humanist association. * Lloyd Evans, founder of JWsurvey.org, an online resource aimed at assisting those who wish to leave the Jehovah’s Witness faith. Lloyd is the creator of the John Cedars Youtube channel, which has attracted over 2.5 million views. Lloyd points to the religion of his upbringing as just one example of the harm that can ensue when religious authority goes unchecked. * Candace Gorham, licensed professional mental health counselor, is a former ordained minister-turned-atheist humanist activist, research, and writer on issues related to race and religion. She is the author of The Ebony Exodus Project: Why Some Black Women Are Walking Out On Religion - And Others Should Too.
